چکیده

The primary objective of this paper is to describe the most common methods used to measure (i.e., sample and analyze) total suspended solids (TSS) and associated metals and phosphorus in urban runoff and to identify issues that may influence the accuracy of the results. This paper also discusses the availability of particle size distribution data from different developed and developing areas of the United States; provides a comparison of TSS concentrations (and particle size distribution) with standard turbidity measurements; and discusses best management practice (BMP) performance efficiencies for TSS compiled by the Center for Watershed Protection.

Characterization of surface runoff from a subtropics urban catchment.

Characteristics of surface runoff from a 0.14-km2 urban catchment with separated sewer in Macau was investigated. Water quality measurements of surface runoff were carried out on five rainfall events during the period of August to November, 2005. Water quality parameters such as pH, turbidity, TSS, COD, TN, Zn, Pb, and Cu were analyzed. The results show that TN and COD are the major pollutants ...

Runoff Quality and Pollution Loading from a Residential Catchment in Miri, Sarawak

Urban non-point source (NPS) pollution for a residential catchment in Miri, Sarawak was investigated for two storm events in 2011. Runoff from two storm events were sampled and tested for water quality parameters including TSS, BOD5, COD, NH3-N, NO3-N, NO2-N, P and Pb. Concentration of the water quality parameters was found to vary significantly between storms and the pollutant of concern was f...

Pre-melt-season sediment plume variability at Jkulsceland, a preliminary evaluation using in-situ spectroradiometry and satellite imagery

High-latitude atmospheric warming is impacting freshwater cycling, requiring techniques for monitoring the hydrology of sparsely-gauged regions. The submarine runoff of tidewater glaciers presents a particular challenge. We evaluate the utility of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery for monitoring turbid meltwater plume variability in the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón, Ic...

Development of a Catchment Water Quality Model for Continuous Simulations of Pollutants Build-up and Wash-off

Estimation of runoff water quality parameters is required to determine appropriate water quality management options. Various models are used to estimate runoff water quality parameters. However, most models provide event-based estimates of water quality parameters for specific sites. The work presented in this paper describes the development of a model that continuously simulates the accumulati...
